What does Ibiza mean?

The name “Ibiza” is derived from the Catalan word “Eivissa,” which in turn is derived from the Greek name “Ebusos” (Εβοῦσος). The Greeks were the first to colonize the Mediterranean island, and they named it Ebusos. The Romans later took control and named the island “Ebusus.” After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Balearics, to which Ibiza belongs, were conquered and ruled several times by different rulers, including the Visigoths and the Arabs.
